What, pray tell, am I supposed to do with all this wood??? I started the Mediterranean map, and things are well, but I need more room.

So obviously, I start clearing land.  Two warehouses later: what the hell am I meant to do with over 500 pieces of wood? That's not even half of what I need to chop down!! The neighboring city buys olive and sells beds, what good is that??? Even if I needed beds, I'm sure I won't be needing that much wood, with hundreds of pieces on the way anyway.  So now my clearing the land has just taken up more space in the form of warehouses, and lots and lots of wood, too much wood!!!!

So, any suggestions as to what I'm meant to be doing with 500 (now 600+) pieces of wood, before I'm even at the point of needing olives for my houses? Is there a way to make the other city trade everything? Can I simply drop it or something? HELP.

You can't do anything with it as far as I know, delete the wood warehouses you don't need.

CCR is a bit unusual in that you cannot delete the trees to create space. Maybe it should have been included in the game, but the game is unfinished. However trees do not regrow in CCR, unlike some other games.

You can clear trees quite quickly by placing several wood cutters. Each will cut down a couple of trees immediately. When they have done that, delete all the wood cutters and place several more which will immediately cut down more trees -- repeat as necessary.
You don't need any warehouses while you are clearing, because it will take a lot longer. Obviously you are wasting the wood and it is costing you some money, but making money is easy in this game.

I don't know if it's how anyone else plays it, but that's exactly how I start off the Brittania campaign; woodmen, scores of 'em, just hacking away, and mercilessly deleted for their pains as soon as they've cleared the ground - mind you, at least you can sell the products of their labours.

I have the opposite problem. . .  I just finished both missions in Massilia.  To build my boats I need lots of wood (also for trading), but at a certain point the wood cutters just stop cutting wood.  Even when my storage yards contain no wood anymore.  The only way to get them back to work in stead of sitting in their seats, is deleting them and building new ones.
In the second mission, the trade market kept on filling up, allthough I stopped trading wood (I had over 100. 000 denarii already, no need for trading  :) ).  It kept on taking in everything, so nothing was left for my beds.  In the end I had to erase the market with the 100 units of wood just to save the game. . .

Maybe I should have set up a trade route with Scullypuss  :005:

I've never had a problem with wood in Massllia because I just don't trade it, and as soon as I think I've enough in my warehouse for future needs, I  ruthlessly delete the woodcamp.  I find I get all the money I need from selling marble - mind you though, I've never played it on the highest difficulty level.

I just traded the wood to get some money while waiting for the trade ships to be made and loaded, without having to get the loan from the Senate.
When I replay the map on high difficulty I'll keep in mind your reply and let you know.

Cheers,
Tom

Cheers to you too. Shouldn't have a problem with wood in Massllia, but you can always buy from the land route city. I usually set two to three warehouses to receive wood only. One next to the wood cutters, one next to the boathouse and one within the carpenters radius. Set carts to haul from one to the other of course.

You are playing first standard then hard difficulty?

Yeah, I'm doing the "medium" diffculty first, to get a good look at all the maps.  The ones I really like or which I think are a challenge I'll do separately in the "hard mode".
